A rule of thumb is that you will spend about 10% of the new price of
the boat yearly, dockage, maintance, replacement, insurance, supplies
etc.... Some years more, some less.

I am in the process of buying a recycled Rhodes22. I am also new to
sailing and would like to know what my initial equipment should
include. I'll be sailing on lake Michigan out of Chicago. I plan on
staying with day sails until I gain experience/confidence, and then I
would like to try some extended week long trips.
I know I need fenders that can handle both floating and attached
docks, life jackets, and fire extinguishers (What kind? How many?).
What other equipment should I consider?
I am very new to sailing so any info will be appreciated.
Thanks
