I think Steve is right, if it cuts loose on you it will be bad news, =
right now it is a simple repair, allot less damage then a mast drop. A =
cordless drill, countersink some drill bits, a little stainless hardware =
and a tube of 5200 fast cure will have it fixed in 20 minutes and 48 =
drying time. Assuming you have the tools will cost all of 15$. It sound =
like you are try to avoid it, just do it(or draft someone) you might =
want to use the thought bolt method, it simpler to comprehend, just make =
sure not to over tighten, you do not want to "squeeze" the hollow space =
crushing the fiberglass.

with the plate not anchored in? don't the stays and the hoist end tied =
to the cleat hold the weight of the mast?
