[Rhodes22-list] Balanced Helm

Overpowered, yes. Round up, no. While I am on a port tack, sitting on the
high side, port side, I am pushing the tiller away from me. If I release
pressure, the tiller comes to the port side therefore the rudder to
starboard. Trying to turn away from the wind. This results in basically
going straight and not dumping the wind. Heeling, yes. But not to the
point of bringing water over the rail.

I just thought of something. The cleat that holds the rudder down, has just
come out. With the rudder being able to come up, I may be fighting myself.

Ok, this brings me to another question. The cleat in new. It appears that
the top screw is attached to some kind of cam inside the bracket. Am I
dreaming this, or is it true? If it broke out the bottom of the cleat
itself, it's an awfully good break with two ears on 180 degrees...like a
cam.

could the boat be overpowered and the boat is trying to round up to save the
skipper from himself :-)

It is a question of degrees, the helm should be balanced under nominal
conditions/ sail sets. I can tell in second sailing with you
hard to answer by email, any detail you can fill in, more the better.
