it a hard call on a 22, the surveyor is only checking the hull/decks and maybe some wood rot in the cabin, their is no diesel, the
water system is dead simple, same for the electrical system and it trailer rigging. Worst yet a surveyor will not pick up the more
PITA problems(port lecks, chain plate leaks, center board problems etc....), seen some even miss a soft deck, or take the boat apart
to relly see things. is it worth 500$ is a very hard call.

Some advice for what it worth: buy a recycled by Stan or a new boat from someone else, the problem is that you have not owned a boat
before, I can see you have been doing some reading but let me tell you what not in the books. Doing working on a boat is a
pain-in-the-ass, the condition depends on the maintenance habits of the pervious owner(it only take a year or two non maintains to
trash a boat), people stop doing maintained while selling a boat, unlike most other projects home projects the foundation counts
more than the finish work(I am assuming your are handily), can get expensive very quickly. what happen is people buy used boats
assuming "they can rebuild it" saving allot of money, you never save money because you are learning and small projects expand into
giant one as the boat is being taken apart and more problem are found. A lot of the time people walk away from "half finished"
projects. worst yet they never get the love for sailing because all thier free time is spent boat building. Let the next boat be a
"used one" after you had a few years leaning the "deal", thier will be enought mantance even on a new or recycled boat to learn on.

> Some big,big percentage of info on buying a boat, even new boats, is to have it surveyed by a qualified marine surveyor, not the
manufacturer, before closing. Seems like good insurance to me. what are your opinions? Also is this 'must have book for 1st time
buyers with no boat construction experience? thanx, gene from bloomsburg,pa
