[Rhodes22-list] Paint

For what it's worth, I've read in a boat repair manual, don't remember which one, that roll and tip works very well with the 2-part paints such as Awlgrip and Imron. The example the author cited showed 2 people working on the boat with the brusher following right behind the roller. I suspect that...
1) nearly immediate brushing following the roller is key to getting a smooth finish and
2) like all paint work, proper preparation accounts for 90% of the quality of the results.

BTW, Bristle (natural animal fiber) brushes are the finest brushes for oil paints. Boar bristles are the commonest type. That doesn't mean they are best for other materials.

Good Luck, John Roland

The question is this: USBoat & West Marine catalogs
say glowing things about brush painting topsides. Of
course they are in the business of selling paint and
other stuff. I had never heard of a "boars hair"
brush and I don't think Home Depot sells one. Has
anyone seen a "roll and tip" paint job on the topside
and how good did it look? I have the skill and the
equipment to spray but would gladly take a "low tech"
approach if its easier, quicker, and looks acceptable. Brad.
