Anne, thanks for the further explanation. Now I think I understand what you
are saying. Guess I won't throw away the thumbscrew after all. I won't be
able to tell you how it works until April.
I have no idea where to find a similar part - it may be something Stan put
together. You might ask him if he has any leftovers from recycling or how
the current model of slider (which looks much like yours) stays in place
with the main reefed and under load.
How about the sort of sliding stop meant to be used on a mast to keep a
conventional main with slugs from sliding out the slot in the mast when the
halyard is loosened? You can see an example in the West Marine catalog
(2002) at the bottom of page 1018 listed as "Davis Track stops". Not sure
if it would fit in the smaller diameter boom but it could probably be
persuaded.
Maybe you could trade your boom slider for Rummy's seeing as how he never
reefs anyway?
