Rummy, it's a '77 model. Undoubtedly with that many years under it's belt
the cable stays are probably suspect. It has always been a fresh water boat
which has surely helped it's longevity. What actually broke was the bolt
that connects the vertical chain plate to a horizontal plate inside. A very
difficult place to work on. Richard

Richard,
You mentioned that your boat was an older boat. How old? You might want to
consider replacing the stays as they do deteriorate with age, especially if
you are sailing in or the boat has been exposed to salt water.
