With a boat that old, even a fresh water boat, you might have a rigger check 
your rigging. Odds are that he will tell you to replace all of it. 
I had a lower shroud come lose while sailing, only to discover that someone 
had removed the cotter rings from most of my rigging. This was obviously a 
case of vandalism and not a rigging problem. I agree, thank the maker for 
installing redundant rigging.
