Ed and Roger,
Thanks for the input.  The rings are really getting a lot of my attention
these days ever since I've had two of the little bastards missing.  It's now
part of my pre-sail boat walkaround inspection.  I even use binoculars to
check the masthead.  I'll never use those open-ended ones again!
