Rummy,
Sorry to disagree, but I got about 50 gallons of rainwater in my
lazarette, and subsequently into the bilge (since water in the lazarette
eventually winds up in the bilge in my boat) as it sat on the trailer beside
my house last winter. The culprit was the seat drain hoses alright, except
that they were clogged! All of the water that they should have drained away
from the seat area went right into the lazarette through the lid opening. I
have learned that I always have to be careful when washing the cockpit
seating area and spraying water around that I don't overdo it. On my 1976
boat, the drain hoses are smaller in diameter than the newer boats I have
seen and don't drain very fast, anyway. (A likely retrofit target for me.)
In any case, it is essential to keep leaves and junk out of these little
hoses to ensure that water in the seat area does not wind up down below.
Fair Winds,
