Bob,

I hear you on the vang. It will help a lot going upwind. With any luck I can 
convert the one from my Bantam to the R22. I really don't need anything 
fancy. If I can convince a friend to crew I will fly spinnaker down wind. My 
boat is not rigged for racing. I have IMF and a 125 jib. I have an older 150 
but the 125 is one year old and is much faster than the 18 year old 150. One 
thing that will help me is that river racing requires a lot of tacking. Most 
of the bigger boats race short handed so I am hoping I can use that to my 
advantage.


And yes the fee includes a bunch of parties and dinners. In fact they spend 
everything on parties and cheap trophies. They have a Christmas light parade 
and dinner party that is supposed to be a bunch of fun. The Club house is a 
house right next to the marina. There is usually people in hanging out 
watching the game or enjoying a drink (BYOB) on the weekend. I really wasn't 
interested in joining but they seemed like such a nice group of folks that I 
am now looking forward to it.

Regarding the 325 PHRF, I am not sure if I can sell them on that. There are 
about four or five boats in the 22 - 25 range that race. There are two 
Compaq 23s and an Oday 222 that race. In spite of my non racing rig pass 
them all of the time. It will be hard to get anything slower than they get. 
I have passed the Catalina 25 heading upwind a couple of times. I will let 
you know what they stick me with.
