Gil, someone on the list was looking into a cockpit cover.  That's the way I
need to go.  Just like my pickup bed.  But to answer your question, for the
winter I do plan on covering the entire boat, it's the time in-between
launches that I need to worry about.  My molded in thru hulls leak anyway
because they are slightly tapered and the hose/clamp never seem to fit just
right, so I figured on killing two birds with one stone.  Larger and no
leaks.

	Hi Joe,
	Have you considered a tarp/canvas?  It would keep most of the dirt
and the water out of the cockpit, really like the truck canvas I used last
winter, might get another, shorter one for the summer.

Thanks Brad.  Do you think the 1" is big enough?  I plan on having my boat
on a trailer much of the time, and I know that any trees in the area will
deposit their leaves on my seats, so I need drainage.  Couple of weeks ago,
I got a call that the boat was sitting on the hull, rocked off the tongue
stand.  Yep, lazerettee was full of water.  Luckily no damage as the motor
and rudder had not been put back on yet, and it was sitting on nice soft
dirt.

You got my drift as to just how big can I go with your comments about
grinding down the flange.

Joe,

My boat had the "nipples" replaced by a previous owner
with 3/4" plastic thru-hulls but one had cracked due
to weather so I replaced them with 1".  The oversized
drains carry a lot more water with less chance of
clogging with leaves, etc., but, there is a limit as
to how big you can go.  The larger the diameter flange
on the seat drains, the higher the water level must
get before it starts to drain.  Also, as Rummy pointed
out on an earlier post, the flange (exposed part) will
not fit in the seat drain channel and may have to be
ground down and caulked for a good fit.  The thru-hull
next to the motor mount (at least on mine) had to be
trimmed to make room for the starboard-most motor
rail. You will need a good wood bit for the size drain
you plan to install and some patience with the
drilling process so as not to remove any more
fiberglass than necessary for a clean hole with no
burrs.
