[Rhodes22-list] Michael's fitting for Jack Lines

Ed K.

I don't use Jack Lines but I do wear a water-activated inflatable PFD all
the time. Since I always sail single-handed now and sail mostly on weekdays
(one of the benefits of being old and on the Social Security dole) I don't
know how much good the PFD would do. There are seldom any boats around that
could pick me up out of the drink. In some 65+ years of messing around
sailboats I have yet to go overboard. Swamped a few times when I was young
and stupid (no longer young but still stupid, some things just stick to you
for a lifetime). Nobody had even heard of Jack Lines or PFDs on small boats
in the pre-WWII days. The only things we carried then were a sponge, a
pail, a paddle, and piece of line to tie up at the yacht club float.
