Jim,
I guess that is why I tie my rudder toward the starboard when
docked.

On my boat, with the GB motor mount to port and the rudder all the way
down (which actually goes past vertical and puts the blade slightly
forward and under the transom) I don't think the rudder can hit the
outboard propeller. You should check to make sure that your rudder
blade is all the way down, and that your motor is properly trimmed.
With a Tohatsu 8 HP motor on the GB mount, I had to move the pin that
holds the motor tilt latch a couple of holes from the factory setting to
position the motor shaft perpendicular to the water. This also moves
the propeller aft and helps separate the rudder and propeller.
If the rudder blade is all the way up ( how I store it on the mooring),
it can hit the propeller.
