Don't know if this helps -- and I'm not recommending it -- but I rarely
remember to close the vent thingy and my motor always starts right up and
runs great. I'll try the string on the finger for next time I'm out.

P.S. If you have had a dust storm since the last time you used the boat, you
might want to check the gas.
