[Rhodes22-list] boom stay

I have a vang set up on my Rhodes22 which is a very simple system of blocks
and line with the mast side block attached to the pop top attachment which
slides up and down the mast and the line running through a cheek block and
fair leads going to one of the cam cleats at the aft end of the cabin top
along with all the other port-side lines. Since I never sail with the pop
top up, it works fine. It moves up with the pop top so there is no problem
when I raise it. If one were to sail with the pop top up, the boom vang
could not be used. As I said, this is a very simple, home-made device. It
increases the speed of the boat considerably in conditions where a flatter
sail is appropriate.

It could easily be adapted to be a preventer by changing the device that
connects it to the pop-top something that would be easily removed and
reattached. The line would need to be longer as well and some device near
the gunnel to attach it to.

This is brief, so ask questions if not altogether clear. (I don't know the
correct names for all the various pieces of hardware.)

I saw this product at the Atlantic City show. Made by the same folks that
gave us the tillerstay. Has anyone tried to install one on their Rhodes22?
He claimed it would work as a preventer and as a vang. I think the pop top
will get in the way of
it acting as a vang.
