In addition to the Firewall and 128bit encryption, if you are using the
airport wireless network access point, you can set the protections to only
allow activity from specific IP addresses.
MJM: yes, that means I'm now running MAC OSX (10.2), so have Unix and all of
the secure file transfer tools available on the mac. Unfortunately, I don't
have time to get back to the site right now. The good news is that it looks
like Will has it under control. I'll work on some ideas and send them to
him when I have a chance.

Steve-
A quick response as a Mac user, as I checked based on your concern.
With Jaguar (OS 10.2.3), there is a built-in firewall under System
Preferences/Networking/Advanced. If you're using Airport (router), I
understand there is a scrambler that prevents access, also with
advanced settings. Neither is a default setting. Viruses are still
minimal compared to PC world-few hundred, that Norton Anti-virus or
Viruscan can prevent with monthly updates.
I'll be pursuing these settings. If you have additional questions, I
may be able to check things on my end.
Regards,
Jay
