I really hate to see this happen. I'm the one who thought this would not
blow up this time because everyone was using the "disclaimer" method.
This reminds me of a recent argument I had with my wife: She hates "call
waiting" and I like it. She says whenever someone beeps in, she has to
interrupt her call and flip over and hates that. I tell her, just ignore
the beep and talk away--they'll call back--don't worry about it. But I've
had my way for ten years and now I've agreed to give in and cancel the CW.
Maybe that's how Pamela feels. Yes, she can hit delete but it bothers her
that it's there and she has to deal with it.
The charter says that the list is maybe like a discussion in a bar. Well, I
work in a bar and these discussions come up all the time. Just tonight I
heard someone say, "Why can't I have lower taxes AND clean air?"
One thing that's different this time around is that people seem to be
writing about their own personal situations, rather than simply waxing on
and on about their views. This is a good thing because (a) we get to know
each other better, (b) we get to see first-hand how people in various
situations cope with today's problems, and (c) realize that one size DOESN'T
fit all.
I like to read this stuff because "Da List" really IS my social life. I
know, I know, I should get a life :-) But I'm always working at nights,
esp. weekends and I can never go out and do what all the rest of you
"regular" people do on weekends (whatever that is--I wouldn't know) and I
rely on you all to provide me with a little diversion. Sure, we all like to
sail our R22's but there's more to life than sailing...esp. If you live in
MN :-)
Michael, Is there any way we can all vote on this or something? I don't
want to lose members but at the same time I don't want to feel squelched
either.
Remember to check your subject line.
