[Rhodes22-list] Offshore sailing classes

Gil,

We originally looked at Maryland SS, Annapolis SS, and J World since we're
relatively close to the Chesapeake (about 5.5 hrs from Annapolis). We
decided to check out Chapman because it's in Fla, so it'll be warmer in the
early spring, and we get to do some sailing and navigation in the Gulf
Stream out of sight of land - give us a chance to brush up on those
navigation skills that tend to atrophy at the lake.

We got started thinking about doing the course when we read about the
Annapolis SS's trip to the Dry Tortugas. Sounded great, but it's around
$2400 / ea. for 8 days and they want more experience than we currently have.

I expect we'll just bring our digital camera and leave it at that. Although
a live feed would be kind of cool... hmm.......

We saw several Island Packets when we were up in Maine last summer. They're
nice looking boats, but I've never sailed on one. One of the reasons we want
the bareboat certification is so we can "test drive" several different boats
before we make any major decisions.

Mark
