In mud /sand it will most likely reset unless it fouls it's self which
generally will not happen if there is any tension on the rode.

As to cleaning.  Have some one at the helm standing by with the engine
ideling, hand over hand the anchor off the bottom and then have him start
motoring SLOWLY as soon as you can see the shank.  Now's the time to slosh
the thing up and down in the water. Most of the guck will come off.  The
rest may be dealt with a bucket of water sloshed on the deck.
