[Rhodes22-list] Collinite

Saroj,

Aurora Sure step is even more tacky than Trewax. Surf board wax is more tacky than Aurora Sure step. The more tacky, the more dirt they pick up. You can always put a tackier wax on top of a harder wax if the harder wax proves too slippery. Collinite cleaner will take them all off if you don't like the result. Then you're back to gel coat and you can start all over again. It sounds dumb, but if you play with it for a while you can both protect your boat and not slip and fall overboard.

Bill,

How timely your email is as I spent considerable time today trying
unsuccessfully to track down Aurora Sure Step. Boater's World carries their
products, but no sure step. The West Marine salesman hadn't a clue what I
was looking for.

Frank,

Collinite is a brand name for a company that has developed a great solvent
for carnuba wax. The cleaner has a lot of this solvent in it, so it will
take off any wax, and anything embedded in it, easily. Others on the list
have said it has no abrasives in it, but it works so well, you will swear it
must. I don't know, but I do use it.

They also make a wax product with this same solvent that deposits a very
hard coat of carnuba. It is a little more difficult to handle than other
waxes that blend softer wax with the carnuba to make it easier to spread.

I don't think it is possible to put multiple coats of Collinite wax on your
boat, because the solvent in the new coat removes the wax previously
applied. Others may challenge this. I'm not sure I'm right.

The Collinite wax coating is so hard it's extremely slippery. I only use it
on surfaces that are not walked on or sat upon. To protect the deck and the
tops of the combing, and the seats, I use Trewax, available from WM. Also I
use Trewax on the front of the hull because I can apply multiple coats. I
find that the water rubs off all the Collinite at the bow in less than one
full season in the water.
