John,
My used 84 came with a Ritchie bulk head mounted compass (port side). It is
very handy and easy to see. I have heard mention of putting compass on
removeable board in the companionway. Of course this can also be tripped
over...maybe someone who has tried this will speak up. I wouldn't think
mounitng a compass in the gallery would be too handy unless it was a second
compass? Are you sure pic wasn't barometer? I guess if it was big enough you
could see from forward part of the cockpit. Maybe for detecting winds
changes when on the hook in closed cabin during bad weather? One would know
if they had a major swing change giving indication they may want to check
anchor set.
My boat came with a fire extinguisher mounted port side on the inside of
the bulkhead. It is not thru bolted and it holds just fine. I have a second
extinguisher laying behind the peg board in the v-birth.
