Thanks Bob, now I know it has been done.  What you've described is exactly
what I had in mind.  I have the boat at a marina where my summer/retirement
house is.  Right now, I'm only there every other weekend, and not always
sailing.  therefore launch and retrieval are very important.

I have a Triad painted trailer and had the same exact problem as you.  There

was no more adjustment left in the bow stop and the boat was not far enough 
forward.  Following Elton's advice, I had a trailer shop cut the bow stop 
assembly and move it forward on the trailer about a foot.  Then I was able 
to adjust it back so that I ended up moving the boat about 6-7" further 
forward.  That seemed to be the "sweet-spot" where it was far enough forward

to eliminate fishtailing, but not too far forward with excessive tongue 
weight.  The other good thing is that now I can play with the bow stop 
adjustment and get it right where it needs to be.  This was a quick and 
simple job to cut and reweld-it took about 30 minutes and cost about $30.  
Made all the difference in the world for trailering.

As for the bow eye getting hung up on the bow stop - I've experienced that 
and there is one very simple way to solve it:  Move the trailer a little 
deeper into the water before driving the boat up.  Doing this with my boat 
puts the bow eye above the stop and then you tighten the winch and when you 
pull the boat out of the water the boat pulls away from the bow stop about 
4-6" which is perfect.  I once did not put the trailer deep enough into the 
water and the bow eye started off below the stop and mangled it when the 
boat was pulled out of the water.  It's trial and error, but try putting the

trailer deeper into the water next time.

As you can tell, my boat has spent a lot of time on the trailer in the past 
1.5 years...
