[Rhodes22-list] Marc and Solar Panels

Marc,
Ed is partially correct in that I do have some experience with the standard 
GB designed solar panels, having two of them on my boat.  After anbout a 
year with no problems, both of my batteries burned out at the same time.  
They were different ages and different sizes, the newest being one year old 
and the older one being...who knows?  So, I purchased a solar panel voltage 
meter at West Marine (can't remember the brand, but they only had one) and 
Rummy installed it for me.  I have both panels charging both batteries, the 
batteries are connected to each other by a cable, and the regulator goes 
between the panels and the batteries.  Seems to work, but I just installed 
it in Feb along with two new batteries (Group 25 Interstate).  Time will 
tell, but their charge has not varied to this point (at 13.2).  Only thing I 
wonder about is that the regulator is designed to shut off the charging when 
voltage hits 14.  Can't believe it ever will...

Ed, wish I could have sailed this past weekend.  Was up on Sunday to pull 
the dock out of the water and put the Yankee Clipper on the trailer for our 
trip to Florida.  Going to Punta Gorda and Pine Island Sound again over 
spring break.  Can't wait.  Long trip but worth it.  Going to visit Boca 
Grande, Captiva, North Captiva, etc.
