Roger,
I'm finally getting a chance to respond, and I also found out that your
interview is next Wed, 5/14, is that correct? If so, I am the closest to
where you will be. I live in Marietta (30 miles from Canton) and work in
Kennesaw (15 miles from Canton). Coincidently, I am also in the chemicals
business with a large Finnish company, Kemira. It looks right now like I
will be in town next week and maybe we can meet for dinner Wed. evening?
Let me know where you are staying or you can call me any time to set
something up. Maybe Rummy will drive down and join us?? My cell phone is
(404)247-9765.
About Canton - It is a still rural area near Cartersville, GA and also right
next to Dalton, GA where you will find the cheapest carpeting in the
country! The area is developing and it really is quite nice because there
is natual beauty, rolling hills (some people call them mountains, but
they're not) and close enough to the big city without the awful congestion
of Atlanta. Urban sprawl is moving very fast in that direction so it is
developing, and there are yankees moving into the area regularly. If you
did move there and buy a house, it would likely appreciate in value quite
nicely over time. You will also be amazed at the relatively low cost of
living down here-low taxes, reasonable housing, cheapest gas in the U.S.
etc. Plus, the weather's great.
While I keep my Rhodes all the way up at Lake Hartwell (2 hours away), there
is Lake Allatoona very close to Canton - probably 10-15 minutes away.
Allatoona is OK, but is really a river with a dam and is pretty narrow.
Still, there is a yacht club and some sailboats there and it would be OK to
keep your boat there-it would be very convenient. Lanier is the big lake
and it is probably 45 minutes from Canton. Much better for sailing, but
crowded on weekends. Still, a great lake and you could sail year-round. I
am not aware of any R-22 owners on either Lanier or Allatoona, but that
doesn't mean they don't exist.
Anyway, let me know if you want to get together.
Regards,
Bob K
