Rummy,
It's a 1984 model. I bought it yesterday from Jim
Marling in Pensacola, FL. He bought in in 1993
somewhere in Florida, I think from the original owner.
There's no name on the boat.
This was Jim's first sailboat, and he sailed it for a
couple of years and then parked it in a storage
compound. He said owning a sailboat was always his
dream, but he is in his seventies, and he said it was
just too much for him.
Anyway, the boat sustained some damage over the years.
Someone backed into it, and pushed the swim ladder
through the transom. There's two holes, about 4
inches in diamater. And the motor and the cockpit
cushions were stolen.
Also, there is a wooden plywood floor - is this
standard on the Rhodes? that is mushy from moisture.
I'm going to basically rip everything out and rebuild
it.
Other than the holes in the transom, the hull is
sound, unless I find some problem when the floor comes
out. The sails are in good shape, except for a small
part of the main, and the trailer is in very good
shape.
As far as I know, this is the only Rhodes 22 in the
Mobile Bay area. I've only seen one other - a dark
blue hull over in Pensacola - and I've wanted one
since. I don't know how may have been made, but they
seem to be pretty rare, at least around here.
Jim and his wife Mary Ann were pleased to send the
boat to a good home. They are moving back up to
Michigan, and I promised them photos later this summer
when the boat is restored.
