as a side note...since im a marylander now and have been for 35 
years...maryland is called the old line state..named by g washington because during the 
revolutionary war the maryland 400 was asked by washington to hold off the 
british and hession troops attacking from 3 sides so he could get his army from 
brooklyn over to manhattan..the battle occurred near prospect park and 393 of them 
are buried in a mass grave around 23rd st and 4th ave...the historical 
society is still looking for the grave....i dont think theyll ever find it because 
the mound that was created as a result of the burials disappeared about 100 yrs 
ago..i guess people just forgot what was there...anyway theres a monument in 
prospect park commemorating their sacrifice..
here in maryland we do have the names of about 290 of these brave lads..in 
fact their lieutenant survived and became the founder of the maryland national 
guard
