you want a long shaft, Rummy likes his motor and I would also look at the Mercury 6hp, I like the tiller controls.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Motors
I looked though some of the archives, but didn't see anything on this, although I expect it's been covered.
Any suggestions on minimum and/or maximum horsepower and any other suggestions on motors? The 76 model I have seems to have an
electrical problem, the reverse doesn't work, and there is an oil leak from the shaft area. Plus, it's a Johnson which I'm led to
believe is hard to get parts for (something about bankruptcy(s)). I figure I can get it fixed, but I'll still have a repaired 76
motor. I asked at the marina about new ones (talk about almost having a stroke, I had no idea how much these things cost!).
A buddy of mine has one, but I'm pretty sure it's a short shaft model. Has anyone had a longer shaft installed? And at what cost?
(I think I can steal my buddies and it might be worth having a longer shaft installed).
Or, anyone out there with an extra motor to sell? thanks - rob
