With her in control she could determine how much heeling she would allow
and being in the center of the boat she didn't feel it as much as being
on either side.

What do you mean 'being in the center of the boat'?  If you are at the
tiller you should be on the windward side and even on an older boat like
mine without Stan's fancy admiral chair, you can sit on the rail.  How
are you teaching???
