I too am shopping for a sailboat and I rented a day sailor on Greenwood Lake
a while back...delightful lake for sailing in northern most NJ but I don't
know about any public launches...anyway while there I spoke with a couple
old salts...long time sailors, and they remarked that everyone is buying the
McGregor 26 but that it is a tub. I only saw it out of the water but from
the looks of the hull and bow line that's how it looked to me. I saw the
Rhodes 22 at the NJ Liberty State Park Sail Show last Sept. but did not get
to sail it unfortunately. ( alas they are not doing a Sail only show this
Sept. there) From what I saw of it and have been reading I like the Rhodes
22. I grew up sailing on a 36 foot gaff rigged no auxiliary sloop on the
Hudson River and I am looking for a boat that can sail!! in no wind, little
wind, close to the wind...I think that is the key to find a boat that can
sail well while taking care of your other needs for cruising etc.
just my 2 cents....I hope to take Jay up on his offer to sail on LBI some
time. Good luck.
