Roger,
Thanks. I have a feeling once he figures his new boat out it will perform
much better. The owner has been an active racer at our club for years. When
he had crew he did pretty well in his Benetaus. However he couldn't race
with out three or four other guys. So he decided to go for the J 80. They
are great racer/day sailors and he could race (without spinnaker) with only
two people. Our winter series was very wet and cold and the J 80 is a wet
boat. Two months after he purchased the J 80 it was sold. He will most
likely race the Alerion 28 next year.
By the way our club only has 15 races left between now and November. I am
holdiing onto third place with second still possible. I am one point behind
a Seafarer 23. P Rhodes son was co-designer of the Seafarer 23; it has a
full keel and is a really nice pocket cruiser. I can not beat this boat! I
have come close in light air but in heavy wind he kills me. If I can't
figure out a way to beat him I will do no better than third. The guy in
first (O'Day 28) can flat out sail the crap out of his boat and he has just
about clinched. He also races Flying Scotts up and down the East Coast so
there is no shame in losing to him. .
Fair Winds -
Wally
