Ed,
I would use a plastic trowel like the type supplied with packages of Bondo.
If you use a metal trowel; then, it would be best to remove the XS epoxy
with acetone before the epoxy has fully cured. If the epoxy has fully
cured; then, it requires a pretty strong solvent to soften it. Soaking the
metal trowel blade in warm concentrated acetic acid for about 30 minutes
should soften the epoxy sufficiently to peal it off the trowel. However,
then you will need to immediately & thoroughly clean the steel blade with
hot soap & water or it will rust very quickly!
