[Rhodes22-list] Firm Price

Philip,

The only real questions with regard to loans are, from your side, how
much will they cost, and from the lender's side, will you pay them back.

You want a loan with the lowest true cost. The lender wants its money
back with interest.. If you have been paying back all your loans on a
timely basis and can afford to borrow more, you can borrow what you need
under prime if you take a variable rate, and at about 6% currently if
you want to fix the rate. "Boat Loans" are rarely at the best interest
rate.

Don't get all involved with how much interest you can write off for tax
purposes. Yes, you can write it off. But the benefits on a $30,000
boat are trivial.

Concentrate, instead, on the cost of the loan, and what you can afford
to pay back.

If I were you, I would start buying the boat right now. Instead of
sending a check every month to a lender, I would send the same amount to
Stan, and tell him to start work on your boat. By the time you are
ready for your boat, the entire downpayment will have been made, and you
will have effectively bought the bought with 100% financing. Your
payments should work out to something like $250/month for 15 years. The
boat will cost you less because Stan will have plenty of time to build
it, so it will cost him less to build. He will pass along some of those
savings to you..

Bill Effros

PS -- From my perspective, I have never seen any boat I like as much as
this one in any class.
