I see your point, an I'm genuinely sorry to have offended anyone.  I'll 
give you a big "amen to that" as far as prioritizing the mortgage, 
raising kids, etc. above any of these priorities.

When I bought my R22, I was (and still am, incidentally) making far, far 
less then $90K/year.  I was in my late 20's, had a rotting day sailor, 
and really wanted something that was safer in our shallow rough waters, 
and something that we could take on overnight trips.  It's what I wanted 
to do, and I found a long-term boat loan at a low rate.  General Boats 
did more than you can ask as far as working with the lender, final sale 
date, etc. so that we could make it work.
