Thanks, Rummy. But the adhesive has been baked hard and dry by months in the
sun. I'm trying the WD-40 to see if it will soften it in a few days during
this warm weather. And yes, the acetone works too well.

Two methods of removing the adhesive come to mind. Heat from a hair dryer or
heat gun will soften the glue and make it easy to wipe up. I've also had
success with WD-40. Let it soak a while and then wipe clean.
If all else fails, a very quick wipe with acetone will certainly remove
it......and possibly the paint from the cover. :)
