Rummy:

Borrowing a line from the late president Reagan, "Mr. Rummy, come home
already".

Re-read what your friends who miss you have to say. They are agreeable to
not leaving the list just because the list has none boat talk about the
weather or alcohol or hunting or traveling or sports or having children,
etc. if you will put up with former Rhodies like Rik (who downsized),
staying on the list. He can't help it - they can't help it. Everyone likes
being in touch with you.

Although a bit klate, I echo Glen & Dorene's comments. They are "right on"
so to speak. Shirlee, Wyls & I agree 100%

Dorene and I have always felt comfortable with this list. We have met
several R22 owners over the years and feel we know others just from being
on this list. I guess it is a matter of trust.
> >
For whatever reason, some of us have decided to move to a bigger boat. It
was not because we didn't like the R22. Had Stan a larger boat in
production, we would have been the first to put an order in. We opted for
"Seaward Distributers, Inc. A General Boats Company" because it still
involved the people we have grown to respect. We still feel the R22 is the
best boat available for it's size and we will miss her... but it was time to
move up.

Yes, there has been a lot of chatter on the list re: the 26, three of us
picked up a new boat within a three week time period...I also feel
disappointed with some of the initial posts.

However, I would like to thank you, and the others, for your tolerance and

I'm with Mark on this. I'd hate to have to subscribe to 5 or 6 different
lists to find out what my buds, the former Rhodies are up to. The
Seaward RK 26 appears to be a logical move up from an R22,
though it appears that 36 & 37 footers are currently popular.
> > >
So here's a question for all the Rhodies out there, if you were to move
up (over or down) - what would your next boat be and why? One of the main
reasons we've stayed small is the ease of maintenance. We like having a
boat on the Chesapeake that we can haul home for the winter. We've
talked about retiring down near the Bay and that has brought consideration
of a
bigger boat. Right now I've been looking at Tartan 28s. Supposedly good
sailing, Sparkman & Stevens design, nice deck layout (with the exception
of the bridgedeck traveller which would take some getting used to), good
cockpit, good engine access, good interior layout and some are even
available tiller-steered. Seems like a nice boat for a couple who still
would want to do a lot of daysailing but might want to take off on
longer trips.

And my two cents worth on this topic - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If we can allow the political rants we've seen, surely we can allow boats
other than the R22 to be discussed, as well.

I can agree with this :-), mjm does not like to work more than the next
man.
I have to admit I do find the topic a little strange, I
I figured this might have been a problem and asked a few months ago, it
seemed that most were ok with it, now that it is a fact, some
of the same people have a problem. OK, I am sitting druming my fingures
on what to do, like I have a question about the macys fire
works/hellgate/anchorage ,an other about puting on names and have I a
answer about "centen". Should I even bother asking or answering?
Next problem if people did not want me here who should I
hand the list over to, Mark a 37 tartan, Will is a seaward 26
and so and I, they will be subject the same "problem". Now sailnet or
yahoo groups would work but they have thier warts. Resomable
people made a resonable statement/request, My problem is I am human too
and feel a little rejected, just do not have the hart to
deal with the list tonight.

I agree, heck this list doesn't have much traffic as it is. Why make
MJM have to work any harder supporting two lists. Maybe Rummy was going
to run the new server. ;-)

As a regular reader and occasional contributor, I too gave some
thought to space taken up by the Seaward dialog, and also came
to some conclusions. I happen to agree that it is the people that
makes this list what it is. The discussion of a 'foreign' boat isn't much
different than the political and sports discussions that get going on the
list.
It all makes up the character of this list, and often provides excellent
food for
thought. The biggest improvement to the management of the list has been the
discipline I've seen everyone use in keeping the subject line on topic.

Although I'd move up to the (Still Only A Dream) Rhodes 26, this
afternoon if I could, I like hearing the experiences people are having with
other boats, Flicka, Seaward, classic runabouts, Rhodes 19 etc. These
are people I've come to know and their comments, positive and negative,
go a long way in influencing my choices and opinions.
> > > > > >
I also think that a lot of the chatter about the Seaward will
settle down after the boats are delivered and get sorted out. These people
still have a lot of good Rhodes experience to share with the group. I'd hate
to
have them feel unwelcome, because they are sailing something else, at the
moment.

Yeah, you are right about the traffic on the Seaward. BUT, I was
thinking about this too. True this list is named the R22 list, but when we
really think about it, isn't it really more like the "I bought a boat from
Stan and/or Elton list"?? In my estimation we (at least I) are here more
because our friends, or people we know are here, than because of which
brand of boat we have. I know there are other Seaward forums already and I'm
sure most who are migrating to the 26 probably are already communicating
on those as well. I also belong to the Flicka 20 list, but I still
come here because I like you Rummy, as well as a lot of other folks on the
list. Also, this list tends to be a little less full of the topic police
than most and is more fun to be around because the topic tends to vary
from day to day.
> > > > > >
I can't say if this diversity is a good thing or a bad thing for the list.
I suppose opinion on this will vary from one person to the next.
For me (yes I know I'm now an outsider) coming here is more about staying
in touch with my friends than talking about a specific boat.

Just my 2 cents worth, probably wasn't worth that much though. :-)
