Mark,
Your statement that the motor prop hits the rudder suggests that you are
sailing with the rudder blade up. It is impossible for the motor prop to hit
a rudder blade when the rudder blade is down. Further, it must be fully
lowered to the point where it can go no further and your rudder blade clutch
control must be set at a tension that will not allow the greater speed
(forward thrust of the boat under motor) to cause the blade to move aft from
its steering position. What also makes me think you may be sailing with
your blade not fully down is that even a slightly up blade fits your saying
that it is hard to steer.
Check it out - take the proverbial two aspirin - and call me in the morning.

retro fit it with a tiller - I should have much more control and be able to
use the Skipper's Swivel Seats more effectively.)

to control. Anyone got any ideas? Is that because of my wheel or the
connection between the rudder and the outboard or just a reality of the
boat? At very very slow speeds it is fine, but anything over 2 knots and it
is really hard to turn - in fact, when I needed to turn hard to avoid a
silly windsurfer close to harbor my prop started hitting the rudder.

remote control levers for better motor control?
