As for the length of the bolts for the motor mounts- 3" should be plenty. On
my 86 R -22,the inner slide, spacer,and outer slide measure 1 5/16"  thick.
the transom is - 15/16" thick.With a nut (but no washer) it left over a 1/2"
of welfare threads ( just along for the ride).I wouldn't think the transom
thickness would very much from boat to boat,but you should check the bracket
thickness,and adjust if  not the same.
