[Rhodes22-list] advice on ground for battery

Lou,

The Dynaplate M/N 4006 that I recommended has an effective water contact
area of several square feet because of its porous sintered bronze
construction.

If you are trying for lightening protection; then, ground the mast & stays.
You will need to run separate HD cables to the mast & the stays. I leave it
to you to decide whether to tie the boat's 12 VDC electrical system into
this ground. The earth ground will dramatically improve the performance of
any radio equipment. If you keep the boat in a marina where there may be a
lot stray electricity in the water, you may want to consider an isolation
transformer and a ground fault interupter on your shore power connection.
These devices would be cheap insurance in any case. Since the boat is
plastic & does not have an inboard engine or any other metal in permanent
contact with the water, I wouldn't think increased galvanic corrosion will
be a significant issue. What would corrode?

I got confused because the title of your post says "advice for ground on
battery" &, from that, I assumed you were interested in improving the
performance of your electronics.
