Ed,
I find you get too many hits, no matter how you sort.
I have always sorted and stored the best posts by category--and I now have hundreds of categories. This works, but it's time consuming, and I fall behind in the sorting. I now use Google Desktop to find stuff back in the unsorted group. That is better than trying to find stuff back without Google, but not as good as sorting.

Bob:
You do not have to be a geek to work the new 'Google' desktop searcher. If
you use windows go to:
1. http://www.google.com/
2. Follow instructions for downloading 'google desktop search'. After
downloading install the program. At a point during the install, it indexes
your computer. This process takes hours, but does it in the background so
you can still use your computer or you can leave the computer on and walk
away.
3. Eventually you can use the program. It works fine for stuff you have
already saved on your computer, like the documents that Todd saved. Then
you can go directly to the related documents.
4. I have not tried it on the list. Michael suggested that it might
work(?). However, I am leaving it up to you to try and report back.
5. However, have you ever saved a document or email and tried to find it
six months later? This program can find it for you. My wife tried it after
I installed it and it worked.

Ed,
Unfortunately, not computer literate enough to have the new Google. Maybe
I'll look into it right after I learn all there is to know about the Rhodes!

Bob,
Do you use the new Google desktop search engine? Michael suggested
it might work on the archives. We need a tester.

Phyllis,
I "sorta" got replies. Think I would have done better had I posted each
question separately with a clear subject heading.
I was redirected to the archives of this discussion list and I gather it is
pretty much the only exclusive Rhodes forum. What I was really after was a
more convenient way of researching rather than more data; but from Mary
Lou's instructions, these archives do not appear electronically searchable.
She did direct me as well to Sailboatowners.com, which does feature
electronic search. As well, at Sailnet (under resources, message board,
search), I found an old, miniscule, unflattering review of the Rhodes. Not
much help there.

Hello, the list! My wife & I had a great time @ the St.Pete show,
including a
nice demo sail from Stan on Tampa Bay. First time on a Rhodes. Even
better
was a chance to jaw with Stan for awhile. Just as you folks hold him in
esteem, he holds you in high regard and his frequent advice was to "ask
the
owners". So I will.
I'm an old(er) guy, new to sailing, who has intermittently lurked on the
list
in the past. But I'm cloudy on a few essentials. When someone refers to
searching the list or archives, how do you do this? Is this a reference
to
the listing of FAQ on the GBI site? Is there still some connection with
Sailnet where a body of info resides?
I hope to become a Rhodie in the near future and because I want to spend
my
remaining years sailing and maintaining (rather than repairing), I'm
aiming
for a new boat. The choices to be made seem daunting and no terror of
the
seas more menacing than the marine head. I'm tempted to go with a
portapotty
although I hesitate to limit the potential of the boat so severely. Stan
suggested asking the list about Lectrasan. Sounds great, but expensive
and I
fear the attempt to solve a complex problem by introducing such a complex
gadget is a triumph of hope over judgment. Anyone have experience with
Lectrasan?
Many thanks, Bob
