Doug,
I too am amazed that it has lasted this long. I do have to fess up that we
only use it 3 or 4 times a season at most.
It works for getting us from the boat to shore and back again as long as
it's calm water and we don't have to go too far. We've also used it to
scrub the waterline. This past summer we actually used it to compete in the
Swan Creek Sailing Association's Dinghy Poker Run - the reason we are
thinking of naming her "Comic Relief". Fortunately it was not a timed
event (actually we won).
Sevylor makes a yellow "Caravelle" and a gray "Super Caravelle". The gray
one (the one that we have) is made of heavier PVC. It has an inner and
outer chamber so that if you puncture one you won't sink right away. They
also make a sturdier PVC model in the $200-300 range. I've never seen one
and if I were going to spend that much I'd probably spend a bit more on a
real inflatable with a seat and real oarlocks.
Unless our needs change, when this one goes, we'll just buy another.
