Steve,
As hard as may be for you to believe, there are many people who have been accused of being liberal who have a deep regard for the future safety and well-being of this country. It seems to me that you are jumping to conclusions. The term "knee-jerk liberal"  used be used to describe someone who adopted liberal point of view without thinking much about it. Sadly, it appears that there are now just as many knee-jerk conservatives. As long as this country is divided into camps calling each other names, we will be neither safe nor well off.
