[Rhodes22-list] Reefer Madness

Steve,
I think if you read Bob's description carefully what he is trying to say
when he says "You pull one line which is lead forward along the boom to
about the companion way and it pulls the boom up to the new clew." he means
he pulls the after section of the boom up to the reefing points clew on the
sail's leach (rotating the end of the boom up, not moving the forward end of
the boom up) by means of a line that goes from the rear of the boom up
through the gourmet at the rear of the reef lines in the mainsail, back down
through a block on the rear starboard of the boom, and then forward to a
cleat on the starboard side of the boom at "about the companion way". I
have the same system on my boat. After he lowers the head of the mainsail
("Drop the halyard to a preset point") he brings the reefing point's clew
gourmet at the luff of the mainsail to the right location on the boom using
a line from near the port front of the boom, up through said gourmet, and
back down to a fitting on the starboard side of the mast near its base.
Then he probably uses his reefing lines to handle the excess mainsail.
However, I doubt that I could do this whole maneuver without ever leaving my
cockpit.
Lloyd
