We stepped down from an old (but well kept) Abbott 30 , which was designed
for blue water, to the Rhodes 22.

We've only had Le Menagerie in the water since May but regularly take her
into the open Gulf of Mexico whenever the weather is right, and the seas
are two feet or less to fish or just cruise. Our trips are based on doing
the homework (marine weather forecasts / visits to the NOAA website for our
area radar etc.), and we always cruise with other boats out there. Like the
other responses, I think it is never a good idea to stray too far from
shelter, and therefore we limit our offshore distance to no more than about
10nm.

Even though I am reasonably certain that the boat can withstand some pretty
heavy weather, in seas above three or four feet you really take a
pounding, it's just no fun.
