Wally and Jeff,
I built a CR 914 kit the winter before last. It is 36" long and also has a
detachable keel similar to that on the Victoria. But I think the CR 914
would capsize if the keel was detached for whatever reason and the boat was
in, or put into, the water; what with the 49" mast, all that rigging, the
sails, and the radio gear very near the waterline. Took me months to finish
but it sails well. My youngest son gave it to me for Christmas with the
idea that I could race it if and when I sold Uhuru II. There are several
clubs around the country dedicated to racing them, however I have yet to
race mine (Sail Number 1007). One of the most active clubs is in Annapolis,
they race weekly year around and the current national champion hails from
that club. The U.S. distributor also belongs to that club and usually is
way up in the national ratings. The CR 914 appears at the Annapolis Sail
Boat show every October and anyone can try them out there.

building it but I have sailed one belonging to a friend. Most importantly,
the keel detaches by removing a nut on the deck. The bolt that holds it on
travels through a watertight tube in the hull so the boat will not take on
water even when the keel is off.
