[Rhodes22-list] Model RC Sailboats, was Weber's Analysis of Lee helm

Wally,

My CR 419 uses the same two controls, both sails on one control and the
rudder on the other. You can adjust the relationship between the Jib and
Main to get the right slot effect since both sheets have sliding adjustments
for tuning purposes but you can not readjust the relationship between the
sails using the radio controls. All the rigging can be adjusted in the same
way so there is sometimes a scramble between races to retune the boats to
accommodate changing wind conditions.

Incidentally, I installed my antenna under the foredeck because the people
who race say the standard outside antenna location, upright near the stern,
tends to catch on the rigging of other boats in close situations. Doesn't
seem to reduce the range of my reception when I am sailing the boat where
there are no other boats around. The radio frequencies are more of a
problem for racing because certain harmonics tend to interfere with the
frequencies of other boats. At Annapolis the have extra spare chips
available at every race. Of course, no two boats can be controlled using
the same frequency in the same race so part of the entrance procedure
consists of checking the frequency of every entrant's chips and weighing
each boat to make sure them meet the minimum weight class rules. Regular
entrants get assigned frequencies within a club but as one moves up during
the course of elimination in major regional events it is possible one may
have to change a frequency chip between elimination heats.

Lloyd
