Hello All,

It has been quite a while since I have been on the list.

I actually came on this afternoon and had close to 400 messages and that was just for the past month. I am glad to see you are all up to such great activities and doing well.

I am in the process of continuing to make a sail cover for my Rhodes and could use some help with the measurements. I have had the boat for going into my 7th season and started this project the first year. In the past I would take the sail off the boom each time I sailed.

Now this may give a hint in that I do not have an IMF mast.

My biggest question is, How tall should I make it at the mast?

I have some instructions from Sailrite and their 10' sail cover has a 46" height. This seems to be very high. I do not have my boat stepped so it is difficult for me to know for sure. I have added the dia of the boom and sail along with the distance from the boom to the mast track opening and get a figure of 24" which seems more reasonable to me. If there is anyone who has a cover or their mast stepped that they could give me a measurement from I would be very appreciative.

This has actually been a very long process which I believe may have started with taking measurement at one time. I had purchased a piece of sunbrealla. (We have a place up here in Maine that has Sunbrella seconds very cheap.) I went to start cutting a piece I had bought a while back and came to the conclusion that I had only enough for one side. So I went to get more last week and after getting home and re looking at the specs. think I may have had what I need in the first place. So as you see I could use some help. Best part is since I have so much material, I may be making a couple of these so I will get some practice.

As to catch everyone up on the work on my boat, I have done quite a bit to it over the years. Some of you may remember It is a 1972 the I bought abandoned. I have bought new sails, rigging(well used from Stan), Engine (well used from MJM), made some modifications, repairs and painted it a great Navy Blue. And after a couple of years even gave it a name, Her name is Pleiades. All for under half of what a new one would have cost. It certainly has been a lot of fun especially the sailing.

Again, I am glad to see all is well and I wish you all the best and a great sailing season.

Scott Scharf
S|V Pleiades
