Frank,

Take another glance.

The boat was designed for Long Island Sound. It is completely
comfortable in coastal waters. Many owners have sailed in the Great
Lakes. It is safer than most ocean going vessels because, unlike the
Titanic, it won't sink.

The reason for not sailing it to Hawaii (although apparently one owner
has done so) is that you cannot safely provision it for a trip of that
length. (This is the same reason the Europeans never tried sailing
Westward to India--They knew they couldn't provision their boats for a
trip of that length, ignorant of the fact that there was another land
mass between Europe and Asia. Columbus argued that the world was only
18,000 miles in circumference, and that a group of vessels could be
outfitted for the much shorter ocean trip he envisioned...but I digress...).

To paraphrase Stan, "If you sail to Hawaii, the boat will make it, but I
cannot guarantee the safety of the crew."

From my perspective, and the way I use my boat, a lake doesn't even
begin to take advantage of the many features of a Rhodes 22.
