[Rhodes22-list] Reply to Todd

Ed,

You are correct. I mentioned Rhodes but couldn't
remember at the time which boat it was. It was Cheoy
Lee and I remember reading that Rhodes was pretty
bitter about it. Many of the high-end boats are now
built on the mainland (Grand Banks for example) so it
is possible to do business with the Chinese and
protect your rights but you do have to be pro-active.
I've purchased DVD's on the street in Beijing while
the movies were still in the theatre in the US. Todd
is correct in that they could buy one boat and then
reverse engineer it. That being said, you can find
trustworthy partners and protections are available to
protect intellectual property rights, but, pirating is
rampant. I'll put my thinking cap on and visit with
Jia, my sister-in-law. Jia is a tough-as-nails
negotiator and a shrewd businesswoman, on the
fast-track at HP. This has the potential to be a good
deal for Stan but it won't be without its headaches or
risks.
