[Rhodes22-list] Forestay Replacement

Dear All,

Can anyone tell me how to replace the forestay on my '87 Rhodes?  While removing the jib for repairs I found a few broken strands in the cable at the top.  I have a factory original furler with the forestay inside the tube w/ plastic plugs on each end.  

How do I remove the plastic ends?

It looks to me like the cable needs to be swaged after it is installed inside the tube?
